Information we collect

Information you provide

If you email us, we receive the information you choose to include, such as your name, email address, message and any attachments. Please do not send sensitive personal information unless it is necessary.

The site does not currently offer visitor accounts, online purchases, newsletter registration or a public contact form.

Technical information

Like most websites, our hosting and security systems may automatically record limited technical information. This can include an IP address, browser and device type, operating system, requested page, date and time, referring page, response status and diagnostic or security events. We use this information to deliver the site, investigate errors, prevent abuse and maintain security.

Historical comments

Comments are currently closed on published posts and pages. The WordPress database still contains comments submitted when commenting was available. Those records may include the comment text, the name, email address and website supplied by the commenter, plus an IP address and browser user-agent recorded by WordPress for moderation and spam prevention.

How and why we use information

We use personal information only where reasonably necessary to:

  • reply to enquiries and continue a conversation you started;
  • operate, maintain, troubleshoot and secure the website;
  • prevent spam, fraud, misuse and malicious activity;
  • keep appropriate business and editorial records;
  • establish, exercise or defend legal claims; and
  • meet legal, regulatory or law-enforcement obligations.

Where UK or European data-protection law applies, the relevant legal basis will usually be our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the site and responding to genuine enquiries, steps taken at your request before entering an agreement, compliance with a legal obligation, or consent where we specifically ask for it. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier lawful processing.

We do not use personal information from this site for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

WordPress and our hosting or caching systems may use cookies or similar browser storage that is necessary for security, administration and reliable site operation. Logged-in administrators may receive WordPress login and preference cookies. You can remove or block cookies in your browser, although doing so may affect site functions.

As of the date shown above, the public site does not load Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Google AdSense, Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity or Matomo tracking code. We do not use visitor data for cross-site behavioural advertising. If this changes, we will update this policy and, where required, provide an appropriate consent choice before non-essential tracking begins.

External links and embedded content

Articles may link to third-party websites or include embedded content, such as videos or social-media material. A third party may receive technical information when your browser connects to its service and may use cookies or other technologies under its own privacy policy. We do not control those services. Opening an affiliate or other external link may also allow the destination site to recognise that the visit came from Arianna Danielle.

When information is shared

We do not sell or rent personal information. We may disclose limited information to service providers that help us host, cache, back up, secure or administer the site, or deliver and store email. Those providers may process information only for the service they provide to us and under their own contractual and legal obligations.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, a court order or a valid government request; investigate misuse or a security incident; protect rights, safety or property; obtain professional advice; or complete a reorganisation or transfer of the site, subject to appropriate safeguards.

International processing

The site is based in Australia and can be accessed worldwide. Some service providers may process or store information in Australia, the United States or other countries in which they operate. Privacy protections may differ between countries. Where applicable law requires it, we use reasonable contractual or other safeguards for international transfers.

How long information is kept

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including correspondence, administration, security, dispute resolution and legal obligations. Retention therefore varies by record:

  • email correspondence is kept while it remains useful for the enquiry or an associated editorial or business record;
  • technical and security logs are retained according to operational and security needs and the schedules of relevant service providers;
  • historical comments are retained as part of the site’s publishing record unless removal is appropriate; and
  • residual copies may remain in backups until those backups are overwritten in the ordinary course.

We may retain information for longer where law requires it or where it is reasonably needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete it, anonymise it or allow it to be overwritten securely.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect personal information. No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your privacy choices and rights

Depending on where you live and which law applies, you may have rights to request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information; object to or restrict certain processing; receive a portable copy; withdraw consent; or complain to a privacy regulator. These rights can be subject to legal exceptions and may not all apply in every situation.

To make a request or raise a privacy complaint, email editorial@unsustainablemagazine.com. Describe your request and the information involved. We may need to verify your identity before acting, and we will respond within the period required by applicable law.

If you are in Australia and are not satisfied with our response, you may be able to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. UK residents may contact the Information Commissioner’s Office. People in other locations may contact their local privacy or data-protection authority.

Children’s privacy

This general-audience site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly solicit personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site’s practices, services or legal obligations change. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when the current version took effect. Material changes will be brought to visitors’ attention where required.
