How to plan a game night with your flatmates
A game night with your flatmates is honestly one of the easiest activities to plan and is a great way to get to know your flatmates better. All you need are some board games and card games (check out my recommendations for the best games to play during your roommate game night and where to buy them below!). I’d also recommend having some drinks and snacks on hand, a good playlist for the evening, and some pens and scrap paper to keep score if you need. Other than that, flatmate game nights basically plan themselves!
Pro tip: if you need games, you can find a lot for cheap at charity shops as well!
The best games to play during your roommate game night
Now, on to my recommendations for some of the best games to play during your roommate game night in various categories.
The best games to play during your roommate game night if you want to really get to know your flatmates
1. Cards Against Humanity
Cards Against Humanity is a CLASSIC if you really want to get to know your flatmates and their senses of humour. Be warned, it gets raunchy very quickly, but is perfect for some alcohol-assisted bonding.
2. What Do You Meme
What do you meme is a slightly tamer version of Cards Against Humanity. The concept is similar, but involves participants adding captions to popular meme images.

3. Uno
I’m not sure why, but Uno always gets SUPER competitive in my flat. I had forgotten just how fun it is! It’s a true classic and really easy to learn and play, particularly if you’ve had a few.

4. Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit
I just discovered this as my friend got it for her birthday and it’s so fun. Though, be warned, it’s movie-based trivia so some of the answers are different than in the books.
5. Simpson’s Trivia or Other Trivia Games
So, my partner just brought back Simpson’s Trivia from his family home and it’s super fun. The questions are really hard, but it’d be nice to get a trivia game for a movie or TV show that perhaps everyone in the flat watches together.
6. Harry Potter Mystery at Hogwarts
I had this game as a child and it’s basically Harry Potter-themed Clue.
*Note: for some reason it’s way more expensive on Amazon U.S., so it might be worth ordering from the UK if you’re interested.

7. Regular Trivial Pursuit
I’m always up for a good round of Trivial Pursuit! There are so many different versions these days; you’re sure to find something you’ll like. I’m a sucker for the classic one, though.
8. Pub quiz and trivia games
Isolating? Why not bring the pub quiz to your home! You can buy trivia questions and hold a mini pub quiz right in your living room.
The best games to play during your roommate game night if you know each other well
9. Articulate
Articulate is by far my favourite game ever. It’s great if you live with close friends as you’re more likely to be able to guess correctly from each other’s explanations. We’re two couples in our flat, so it’s perfect.
10. Taboo
Taboo is a similar concept to articulate, but is slightly harder in that you can’t say certain words in your explanation.

11. Charades
Charades is a classic and always ends in hilarity.
12. Pictionary
If you’re looking to get a bit creative at your flatmate game night, Pictionary is perfect! We just use a small chalkboard and look up words online to use for it, but you can also buy the official version.
The best strategic games to play at a flatmate game night
13. Catan
When I lived in the Cayman Islands, we used to have a weekly Catan night at one of the bars. I’d never played before and I loved it! If your flatmates are into strategy games, it’s a great choice.
14. Clue / Cluedo
Now, I’m not sure if everyone would consider Clue a strategy game, but I do! Always a classic!

15. Catchphrase
For your flatmates who are into pop culture, Catchphrase is a similar option to Taboo and Articulate that should be right up their alley.
Great games to play with your flatmates if you’re feeling nostalgic
16. Sorry!
It’s always fun to have a few beers and play some games from your childhood. Sorry! is a great option!
17. Top Trumps
Top Trumps is a very British thing and super simple, but somehow still so fun! There are so many different themed ones, for example, this Harry Potter one.
What to do if you run out of board games: card games
It’s always good to have a deck of cards on hand for if you run out of board games to play at your game night. The possibilities are endless! I’d recommend Spades, Egyptian Rat Screw, or Poker to play with a group of flatmates.
